SAMSUNG Demonstrates Environmental Commitment with EPEAT Ratings for 60 Printer Models
Company Leads with More Total EPEAT-rated Products Than Any Other Manufacturer for Printers, TVs and Hundreds of Models in the PC and Display Categories

RIDGEFIELD PARK, N.J., April 22, 2013 – Samsung Electronics America Inc.today announced that it now has 60 of its A3, A4 and MFP devices rated on EPEAT, the global registry for greener electronics. As a company, Samsung leads with the largest number of products rated on EPEAT, which includes products in each category of the EPEAT registry. EPEAT ratings have helped companies, governments and consumers compare and purchase greener products since 2006, resulting in significant environmental benefits.

“At Samsung we strive to design and build our MFPs and printers in an environmentally responsible way, and we are glad to have those efforts result in ratings by EPEAT known for their strict, comprehensive criteria for greener electronics,” said Tod Pike, senior vice president at Samsung’s Enterprise Business Division. “We are pleased to have participated in EPEAT’s thorough process and especially gratified to have 60 of our print devices rated for environmental performance.

To be added to the EPEAT registry, A3, A4 and MFP devices must meet a number of environmental performance criteria developed by hundreds of representatives from the environmental, manufacturing, research, recycling and government sectors. Since the first half of 2008, the U.S. Federal Government has required products up for bid to be EPEAT registered. With these latest EPEAT ratings, Samsung printers can be a viable option to support U.S. government bids and contracts.

The environmental criteria required for imaging equipment to be added to the EPEAT registry included product assessments in 10 main categories, reduction/elimination of environmentally sensitive material, materials selection, design for end of life, product, longevity/life cycle extension, energy conservation, end of life management, corporate performance, packaging, consumables and indoor air quality. For this assessment, an additional 59 sub-categories were used.

“Samsung is among the leaders in global printer registrations, much as they’re a leader in EPEAT’s PC/Display and television categories,” said Robert Frisbee, EPEAT CEO. “I applaud Samsung for their commitment to environmental performance and design across multiple categories.

Since 2006, the purchase of EPEAT-registered products over non-registered products has helped people eliminate greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to 11 million U.S. vehicles’ annual impact, avoided more than 394,000 metric tons of hazardous waste, and reduced solid waste by nearly 167,000 metric tons – equivalent to nearly 86,000 U.S. households’ annual waste.

Samsung registered A3, A4 and MFP devices on EPEAT, including the A4 models SCX-5835FN, CLX-6260FW, CLP-775ND and ML-4512ND. All Samsung printers can be found at select Samsung resellers and channel partners. Local availability can be determined by calling 1-866-SAM-4BIZ or by visiting www.samsung.com/business . Follow us on Twitter @SamsungBizUSA .
