Samsung KNOX™ mobile security platform to support Microsoft Workplace Join, Windows Intune, Windows Azure and Cloud Printing of Microsoft Office documents
BARCELONA, Spain – February 27, 2014 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., announced today that Samsung KNOX will now support Microsoft’s Workplace Join to Active Directory and the Windows Intune cloud-based mobile device management solution in addition to Cloud Printing solution which uses both Microsoft Windows Azure cloud platform and Microsoft SharePoint. These Microsoft enterprise-class technologies will improve security and productivity for enterprise workers using Samsung KNOX-enabled devices, Samsung’s end-to-end secure mobile platform solution designed to provide advanced data and privacy protection for enterprise users.
“Samsung developed KNOX as a secure and complete mobile platform for the enterprise and we continue to evolve it to protect and respond to ever-changing enterprise mobility and security challenges,” said Injong Rhee, Senior Vice President of KNOX Business Group, IT & Mobile Communications Division at Samsung Electronics. “As a proud and long standing Microsoft partner, we are delighted to be able to offer their Workplace Join users with the full security and support that the Samsung KNOX platform offers. We are also pleased that Microsoft has enabled device management through Windows Intune, enabling enterprise IT managers to take full advantage of the management capabilities offered by Samsung KNOX.”
Workplace Join
The Samsung KNOX platform is the first Android implementation to provide full support for Workplace Join to Active Directory, introduced by Microsoft in Windows Server 2012 R2. Offered on the latest Samsung mobile devices, Workplace Join will eventually be available on all Samsung KNOX devices in the coming months.
Workplace Join enables users to register devices of their choice with their company to allow access to corporate resources. With the integration of Workplace Join into the Samsung KNOX platform, enterprise IT administrators can be assured that employees that bring their own Samsung mobile device will be able to be strongly authenticated and allowed access to corporate resources.
“In line with our commitment to serve enterprises and users in heterogeneous IT environments, we are pleased to work with Samsung to bring Microsoft’s trusted, cloud-enabled, enterprise BYOD capabilities to Samsung devices,” said Bob Kelly, Corporate Vice President, Cloud & Enterprise Business Development, Microsoft. “Like Windows device users, Samsung mobile customers will now be able to take advantage of seamless authentication for access to enterprise resources, and Enterprise IT will be able to manage those devices and users through the cloud with Windows Intune. We are also excited to see Samsung use Windows Azure and Office 365 cloud capabilities to give users a smartphone printing experience that rivals desktop and laptop printing results, with Cloud Printing. We see many opportunities to collaborate with Samsung in the future to continue providing enterprise-grade solutions for BYOD environments.”
Windows Intune
Microsoft’s Windows Intune provides first class support for Samsung mobile devices supported with the KNOX platform. By implementing management APIs provided on the KNOX Standard platform, IT administrators can comprehensively manage Samsung mobile devices via the Windows Intune administration console and enable device access in high security environment
Cloud Printing with Windows Azure

Samsung's "What's your problem? Sport Doesn't Care" Campaign Encourages People to View Paralympic Games Athletes Simply as Athletes

Samsung's "What's your problem? Sport Doesn't Care" Campaign Encourages People to View Paralympic Games Athletes Simply as Athletes
Samsung launches campaign to celebrate athletes competing in the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games
Seoul, Korea – February 27, 2014 – Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., the Worldwide Olympic and Paralympic Partner in the Wireless Communications Equipment category, today unveiled a compelling video campaign called “What’s Your Problem? Sport Doesn’t Care.” to honor the commitment and achievements of athletes competing in the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games.
Samsung’s Paralympic Games platform, “Sport Doesn’t Care”—which encourages people to view Paralympic Games athletes simply as athletes, and supports their tireless pursuit of dreams—debuted at the London 2012 Olympic Games and reached nearly 5 million people in its first two weeks online.
This new, gritty campaign, created by 72andSunny Amsterdam, calls attention to the fact that we all have problems, but sport makes no distinctions. In the eyes of sport there is no ability or disability, all that matters is the energy and determination of athletes and that they give all to achieve their goals.
“Conversations around the Paralympic Games tend to focus on disability over athleticism,” explains Younghee Lee, Executive Vice President of Global Marketing, IT & Mobile Division at Samsung Electronics. “As a brand with a passion for sport, Samsung aims to make the dialogue more empowering, focusing on the courage and performance of athletes and encouraging participation. We believe this campaign will inspire more people to become engaged and involved in the Paralympic Games.”
Following a kick-off Manifesto film posted on February 20, today’s 90-second “What’s your problem? Sport Doesn’t Care” film captures intimate moments in the lives of five Samsung Galaxy Team Paralympic Games athletes along with an appearance by U.S. Paralympian Evan Strong. Documenting everything from the 5am wakeup calls and grueling workouts, to harsh weather and fear of failure, the piece depicts the myriad of trials faced by any top athlete.
Athletes featured in the films include:
 - Jessica Gallagher – alpine skiing – Australia
 - Seung-Hwan Jung – ice sledge hockey – Korea
 - Katarzyna Rogowiec – cross-country skiing and biathlon – Poland
 - Anna Schaffelhuber – alpine skiing – Germany
 - Evan Strong – Snowboard Cross – United States
 - Greg Westlake – ice sledge hockey – Canada
"I'm so excited to be involved with 'Sport Doesn't Care’, and I think that Samsung's commitment to the Paralympic movement is incredibly important. It calls much-needed attention to the fact that we as Paralympians are really not different from our Olympic Games counterparts -- we work just as hard and want to win just as much,” said Gallagher, a Paralympic Games alpine skier from Australia, and the country’s first woman to win a medal at the Paralympic Games. “I ski the same as any Olympian, I just use adaptive equipment to help negate my vision loss. Whether you're a top athlete or a young child just starting out, sport doesn't discriminate," she added.
A third film set for release on March 7 explores the message from the perspective of Keira, a young athlete, aiming to inspire people of any age and ability to get involved with sport.
Samsung is sharing all three of the films worldwide through YouTube, Facebook and Twitter, utilizing the #sportdoesntcare hashtag.

Samsung Galaxy Devices with KNOX embedded First in Mobile Industry to Receive MDFPP Common Criteria Certification

Samsung Galaxy Devices with KNOX embedded First in Mobile Industry to Receive MDFPP Common Criteria Certification
Brings Enhanced Security to Government and Enterprise Mobility
RSA Conference 2014, San Francisco, CA – February 26, 2014 – Today, Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (“Samsung”) announced that the company’s selected Galaxy devices with KNOX embedded have received Common Criteria (CC) certification, as officially documented by Gossamer Labs of Catonsville, MD.   Common Criteria is the international “gold standard” for secure and trusted systems, specifically to ensure that they satisfy the predefined set of security requirements designed for enterprises. Samsung KNOX confers enhanced security upon mobile devices, helping enterprises protect mobile access to high-value information assets.
Common Criteria certification assures that certified devices are independently evaluated and verified to meet fundamental security requirements specified in the Protection Profile.  The current CC certification targets the new Mobile Device Fundamentals Protection Profile (MDFPP) of National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP) published in October 2013, which addresses the security requirements of mobile devices for use in enterprise. The components certified in CC form a strong cryptographic foundation on which more advanced KNOX security features are implemented. This certification validates s that enterprises can safely provide their workers access to networks and high-value information assets using CC-certified Galaxy devices with KNOX embedded.
The entire focus of the Knox initiative for Samsung has been on bringing enhanced security to mobile devices. “This endeavor is about more than security, but rather on the noble pursuit of  driving the entire mobile ecosystem to bring the enterprise customer a better high-assurance solution than they have ever had access to,” said Injong Rhee, Senior Vice President of KNOX Business, IT & Mobile Communications Division at Samsung Electronics.
“In my twenty-five years doing security evaluations, rarely have I seen a company that could complete an entire Common Criteria evaluation, from the very first meeting to complete, in under four months”,  said Jim Arnold, Director of Gossamer Security Solutions. “At Gossamer we pride ourselves on our responsiveness and Samsung’s speed and agility as a company certainly challenged us.”
Certified Platform Availability
The first certification was performed on select Samsung handsets and tablets, and will be available across a range of Samsung devices starting in Q2/2014.

BlackBerry Introduces BES12 as the New Foundation for Enterprise Mobility
New BES10 pricing made easier with two tiers, Silver and Gold
New promotional program allows customers to deploy BES10 at no cost
New ecosystem of enterprise applications
Mobile World Congress 2014, Barcelona – BlackBerry Limited (NASDAQ:BBRY; TSX:BB), a world leader in mobile communications, unveiled plans for BlackBerry® Enterprise Service 12 (BES12), a new enterprise mobility solution that is application-enabled and unifies BES10 and BES5 to one platform. In addition, a new promotional program will provide free migration to BES10, while a new pricing structure enables customers to simplify their enterprise mobility management (EMM) environment to a single trusted provider.
BlackBerry’s enterprise strategy is to extend beyond EMM to an application-based environment and ecosystem that provides a highly productive end-user experience. This will enable organizations to develop and deploy new services to mobile devices faster. By doing so, BlackBerry will target a global market that IDC has forecasted to reach $4.8 billion by 2017.(1)
“BES10 is the only mobility management solution that meets the highest security demands of regulated industries and is also flexible enough for BYOD,” said John Sims, President, Global Enterprise Solutions at BlackBerry. “This value proposition is why the new BES12 architecture is designed to ensure that the more than 80,000 existing BES customers can seamlessly migrate forward. As we execute on our long term vision, we will offer all customers the opportunity to move forward with us. The investment customers make in BlackBerry today will be a valuable investment for the future.”
The Next Generation of BES – BES12
As part of BlackBerry’s long term strategy, the Company is developing the next generation of the BES platform to enable organizations to develop enterprise-grade applications that can be quickly deployed to BlackBerry smartphones and other mobile devices.
In a report by Forrester Research, Inc.(2), authors Christian Kane and Michele Pelino wrote, “The wide variety of mobile devices and increased mobile application adoption require enterprises to broaden their mobility strategy beyond the simple management of devices, to include developing, deploying, securing, and managing mobile applications of all genres and capabilities.”
The new BES12 platform will focus on delivering the following core capabilities:
·         Backwards Compatible and Future Proof: BlackBerry OS devices will be supported and the new platform provides the foundation for customers to integrate new mobile endpoints, enhanced user self-service, advanced service management, highly scalable datacenter-grade deployments, and implement active-active high availability clusters for ultimate reliability.
·         Enhanced Multi-Platform Support: BlackBerry continues its commitment to providing multi-platform solutions and will add support for Windows Phone 8 in addition to already supported iOS®, Android™ and BlackBerry 10.
·         Advanced Service Management: Proactive monitoring and systems tuning delivers a complete end-to-end perspective of the BES management platform and automates problem resolution.
·         Connect Cloud and Mobile: The flexibility and scalability of the new BES12 architecture will provide customers with the ability to move from on-premise to the cloud effortlessly and securely. The new platform will support all deployment models, including on-premise, public cloud, private cloud and hybrid environments.
·         Mobilize Apps: BlackBerry delivers the tools and integration points to easily develop and deploy securely connected enterprise apps across all supported platforms.
New EZ Pass Program and BES10 Pricing
BlackBerry also announced today a new EZ Pass program that provides free migration for customers to move from BES and other MDM platforms to BES10 as well as a new pricing structure.
For existing BlackBerry customers, the EZ Pass program will match any active existing on-premise BES license and any active license customers may have from other MDM vendors with a corresponding Silver level BES10 perpetual license.(3) Customers will also receive free Advantage-level technical support with their new license to help them get up and running fast.
The new pricing and licensing structure will provide two simple tiers, Silver and Gold. Silver includes full device, application, email and security management for BlackBerry, iOS and Android devices, including the unique BlackBerry® Balance™ technology for BlackBerry 10 smartphones. BlackBerry to Launch eBBM Suite for Enterprise Customers
First Solution, BBM Protected, will Provide Secure, Enterprise-Class Mobile Messaging for Regulated Industries
Mobile World Congress 2014, Barcelona – BlackBerry Limited (NASDAQ: BBRY; TSX: BB), a global leader in mobile communications, today announced the eBBM™ Suite, a new family of products and services that work with BlackBerry® smartphones and the BlackBerry enterprise solution, BES and BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10, to provide enterprise-class mobile messaging that brings together the core strengths of BBM with features and capabilities aimed at enterprises.
BBM Protected will be the first solution offered in the new eBBM Suite, bringing regulated industries the most secure and reliable real-time mobile messaging in the industry. BBM Protected will provide an unrivalled level of trust in enterprise messaging with end-to-end encryption of messages that uses symmetric encryption keys for BBM messages and best-in-class technology for public-private signing and encryption key pairs.
Employees will be able to use a single well-known, well-loved app to connect with internal colleagues under this regulated level of enhanced security, while remaining free to message BBM contacts outside the organization simply and easily with the privacy, control and security that is already inherent in BBM. For IT administrators and infrastructure managers, BBM Protected will work across BlackBerry 10 and BlackBerry® OS smartphones in regulated mode with no OS upgrades required.
BlackBerry's end-to-end security model is built on a foundation of secure hardware interacting with secure software. Security is reinforced at every level of the device from CPU to boot ROM, to OS and file system, and applications. The root of trust that BlackBerry builds for its customers remains unbroken throughout the chain, and is unlike other security models that rely on the interaction of components from multiple vendors.
“BBM has always been an important tool for business users who want real-time messaging that is reliable, trusted and puts control of contacts and personal information in users’ hands,” said John Sims, President, Global Enterprise Solutions at BlackBerry. “With the introduction of the eBBM Suite and BBM Protected, we will provide regulated industries and security-conscious organizations with a powerful and best in class instant messaging solution.”
BlackBerry remains committed to providing end-to-end solutions that are secure, reliable and benefit the productivity and collaboration of enterprise customers. “Regulated industries need an option for mobile messaging that maintains compliance, but still gives employees the freedom to be productive with peers outside of the organization. BBM running on BlackBerry smartphones in a BES environment is unrivalled in meeting this need,” said John Sims.
BBM continues to be a top choice for business users who turn to mobile messaging to enhance their productivity and collaboration through BBM Voice calling, one-to-one chats, multi-person chats, or BBM Groups, which offers groups of up to 50 people the ability to chat, share calendars, lists and images. BlackBerry users can use BBM for video calls, to share screens and to create private BBM Channels for one-to-many collaboration and sharing.
Pricing and Availability
BBM Protected as part of the eBBM Suite is expected to launch this summer and will be available to enterprise customers through a monthly per-user fee.
