LG Music Flow Wi-Fi Series Takes Wireless Music to a New Level of Convenience

New Lineup Includes Company’s First Portable Music Flow Speaker for Seamless Music Experience Anywhere

SEOUL, Dec. 23, 2014 ― At the 2015 International CES® in Las Vegas, LG Electronics (LG) will showcase its new Music Flow Wi-Fi Series lineup for music and movie lovers worldwide. The lineup includes the company’s first battery-powered Wi-Fi Speaker (Model H4 Portable), advanced Wi-Fi Sound Bars (Models HS7 and HS91) and the Streaming 3D Blu-ray Player (Model BP550). These speakers are designed to be compatible with Android and iOS devices.

LG MUSIC FLOW WI-FI SERIES TAKES WIRELESS MUSIC TO A

Each LG Music Flow Wi-Fi device can be used independently or connected to one another device wirelessly, using Advanced Wireless Network and Dual Band Wi-Fi (2.4/5GHz) technology to deliver a seamless audio experience. Unlike other Bluetooth speakers, streaming to a Music Flow Wi-Fi Series speaker from a smartphone continues uninterrupted when receiving a call. And if home libraries aren’t enough, users can stream music from service providers such as Spotify, Deezer, Napster, and TuneIn.

The LG H4 Portable is the company’s first wireless speaker with a built-in battery for easy portability from one room to another in the home. The Music Flow Wi-Fi Series lineup also includes two Wi-Fi Sound Bars that deliver rich, full and immersive audio — the HS7 provides seamless HD sound while the HS9 offers outstanding, deep acoustics.

LG Music Flow makes creating a personalized wireless home entertainment center easier than ever. In Home Cinema Mode, users can wirelessly connect two of H4 Portable speakers to the Wi-Fi Sound Bar as rear left and right channels to completely immerse the viewer in surround sound. Each speaker can be individually set to match the desired environment based on the speaker’s position. And LG’s BP550 Streaming 3D Blu-ray Player can be connected to Music Flow speakers to stream sound from any CD or USB drive.

What’s more, the Auto Music Play feature gives LG Music Flow the ability to deliver a user experience that maximizes convenience for listeners on the go. Music on a smartphone will automatically begin playing on a Music Flow Wi-Fi speaker when the phone comes within one foot. So you could be listening to music on your headphones on the subway ride home but the music will begin playing automatically from your living room Wi-Fi Sound Bar when you enter your living room.

The collection also comes with LG HomeChatTM capability that allows users to control the LG devices using the popular LINE free-text messaging app on any smartphone or tablet. Users can use this feature, basically sending a text to the speaker with simple commands such as “play songs for party” or “turn off music after one hour.” With HomeChatTM, LG Music Flow Wi-Fi Series can also act as a personal assistant, setting alarms and alerting users of upcoming events on command.

“The flexibility and quality of the LG Music Flow Wi-Fi Series delivers a listening experience that goes beyond what conventional audio systems have been able to offer until now,” said Byung-hoon Min, senior vice president and head of the CAV division at the LG Home Entertainment Company. “With Wi-Fi capability and high-fidelity audio output, our Music Flow Wi-Fi Series is the epitome of what a smart audio system should be capable of in the 21st century.”

Visitors to LG’s booth at CES 2015 (Las Vegas Convention Center, Central Hall #8204) from Jan. 6-9 can experience LG’s exciting new Music Flow products firsthand.

(1) HS7 will be available as LAS750M and HS9 as LAS950M in some countries.

Nokia, Save the Children collaborate in India to protect children during disasters
Telecom, mapping technologies to help children in India by building resilience in disaster prone areas
New Delhi, India -  On the occasion of the Universal Children's Day Nokia today announced to join hands with Save the Children for an important social cause - protecting children in India during disasters. Both parties will build the resilience of children and their communities in India through Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and social protection by providing better communications connectivity with its telecom technologies and navigation with mapping technologies. The program will be implemented starting with states including Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu.
Click to Tweet: #CSR by @nokia @nokianetworks to protect children in India during disasters #ChildrensDay #NetworksPerform

How technology can help to protect children

DRR and communications technologies linked to mapping help provide
  • access to right information at the right time
  • geospatial database to create risk maps
  • safety maps and plans
  • alternate routes and safe zones
  • mobile-based information sharing networks for real time monitoring
  • better collaboration and coordination
  • mobile-based triggering mechanisms
  • mobile-based training and education
Sandeep Girotra, vice president and head of India Region, Nokia Networks, said: "We feel strongly that it's our social responsibility to contribute and protect the children in India pre-, during and post- disasters as they are the nation's future. We are committed toward this, and our advanced telecom and mapping technologies, coupled with the Save the Children's global expertise in DRR and social protection, can build a greater resilience to protect children. We believe this model that aids social protection and resilience can be taken well beyond India."
Thomas Chandy, CEO of Save the Children, said: "We are grateful to Nokia for its generous help to make a huge difference to children of India through innovations in DRR and social protection, especially since the company is an expert in communications and mapping technologies. The company's telecom technologies can spearhead communications connectivity in real time to reduce the risk from disasters, thereby ensuring that children and their communities are safe. We believe this would be a highly innovative partnership with path-breaking use of telecom technologies."

Did you know?

According to Save the Children, due to disasters such as Jammu and Kashmir flood this year, and the Uttarakhand flashflood in 2013, children have severely suffered, as their education, nutrition, safety as well as overall care and protection have been adversely affected. In recent decades, disasters have become multi-fold and weather patterns unprecedented. Due to the threat of environmental risks, the poor are exposed to a range of everyday shocks and stress that lead to reduced coping capacity of households and, eventually, further impoverishment. This situation heightens children's vulnerabilities.

HERE launches Predictive Traffic

Source: Nokia - Press Releases - November 20, 2014
HERE launches Predictive Traffic
Charlotte, N.C. - HERE, a leader in navigation, mapping and location experiences, today launched Predictive Traffic, a new traffic forecasting product that can anticipate future traffic conditions in real-time.
HERE Predictive Traffic considers over 100 different traffic behavior profiles per road segment to provide up to the minute traffic forecasts as far as 12 hours into the future. HERE devised a proprietary mechanism that selects the appropriate profile from this exhaustive collection, and combines it with real-time conditions to provide travelers with the best travel time estimates for their destination. Drivers using Predictive Traffic saw estimated arrival times that were up to 20% more accurate for journeys over 30 minutes in length.

Automakers, transportation agencies and other companies can build applications that seamlessly integrate HERE predictive traffic data across all screens. Pre-planned trips could be synced to the cloud, for example, allowing for automatic integration with the car and real-time notifications via connected devices. Dynamic message signs on highways could broadcast better travel times to the public.
Predictive Traffic demonstrates how HERE is using its expertise in predictive analytics and cloud computing to create solutions for connected cars today, and lay the foundation for autonomous vehicles tomorrow. The product will initially be available to OEMs in the U.S., Canada and Germany.
HERE has the most comprehensive traffic portfolio in the industry. In addition to Predictive Traffic, HERE Real-time Traffic is available in 43 countries and historical traffic data are available in 81 countries. HERE also collects more than 70 billion probe points per month and has collected more than 1.3 trillion historical probe points over the past decade.
"With HERE Predictive Traffic, businesses and ultimately consumers will benefit from having the most accurate, real-time traffic forecasts at their fingertips," says Ogi Redzic, Senior Vice President, Connected Driving HERE. "With Predictive Traffic, drivers will learn of delays in advance and be able to plan around them. The most important thing is that people spend less time in traffic."
HERE will be demonstrating its Predictive Traffic product at the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) annual meeting in Charlotte, North Carolina starting today.

Developers Start Designing Apps for Apple Watch

Source: Apple - Press Releases - November 18, 2014
Developers Start Designing Apps for Apple Watch
WatchKit Software Tools Now Available to Developers
CUPERTINO, California—November 18, 2014—Apple® today announced the availability of WatchKit, software that gives developers a set of tools to easily create experiences designed specifically for Apple Watch™—Apple’s most personal device ever. Apple has the world’s most vibrant and innovative developer community, and now these developers can begin developing WatchKit apps before Apple Watch becomes available. Developers can create innovative WatchKit apps, actionable notifications and Glances, for timely information accessible by an easy, quick look at Apple Watch.

“Apple Watch is our most personal device ever, and WatchKit provides the incredible iOS developer community with the tools they need to create exciting new experiences right on your wrist,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “With the iOS 8.2 beta SDK, developers can now start using WatchKit to create breakthrough new apps, Glances and actionable notifications designed for the innovative Apple Watch interface and work with new technologies such as Force Touch, Digital Crown and Taptic Engine.”

Developers can create notifications that allow users to take action or respond right from their wrist such as turning the lights off after they've left the house, quickly accessing flight details at the airport, and rerouting their transit when a train or bus is late. Developers can incorporate Glances, which quickly show users information they care about most, such as the latest news and sports scores, alarm system status or the next step of a favorite recipe.

Developers who have previewed the WatchKit tools and APIs are eager to start building on the personal and immediate experiences Apple Watch will offer users.*

“Fans crave real-time and personal information, and the ESPN app for Apple Watch gives us the ability to deliver live scores and information for their favorite teams,” said John Kosner, executive vice president of Digital and Print Media, ESPN. “Glances provide fans with a snapshot of live games, and if there is no game taking place, they’ll get valuable game-time information or the final box score. With actionable notifications, the experience becomes even more personal, as fans receive alerts on score changes, news and more.”

“Apple Watch allows us to make the Instagram experience even more intimate and in the moment,” says Kevin Systrom, co-founder and CEO of Instagram. “With actionable notifications you can see and instantly like a photo or react with an emoji. The Instagram news and watch list allows you to see your friends’ latest photos, follow new accounts and get a real-time view of your likes and comments.”

“The American Airlines app on Apple Watch reminds you when it’s time to head to the airport via pre-trip notifications, and provides updates for gate changes, connecting gate info upon arrival, and will notify you when boarding begins if you’re not at the gate yet,” said John Gustafson, American Airlines vice president of Digital. “Travelers can also ask ‘Where am I?’ in-flight and get real-time location information at 30,000 ft.”

The iOS 8.2 SDK beta including WatchKit is available immediately for iOS Developer Program members at developer.apple.com/watchkit. The WatchKit site includes programming guides, human interface guidelines, templates and more. Starting later next year, developers will be able to create fully native apps for Apple Watch.

* App features are subject to change and may not be available in all regions or all languages. Apple Watch requires iPhone 5 or later.
