SUNNYVALE, Calif. - Nokia Technologies, a leader in technology development and licensing, today announced the appointment of Dr. Guido Jouret as chief technology officer, effective immediately. Jouret brings to the position more than two decades of technology innovation and leadership, with a focus on business incubation and customer solutions. He will report to Nokia Technologies President Ramzi Haidamus and join the company's management team.

"Nokia Technologies has a strong track record of innovation that continues to shape the communications industry. It was important to find the right person to continue this work, and we're all very excited to welcome Guido to our team," said Haidamus. "I look forward to working with Guido, and trust him to be the bridge between the hypothetical and the possible, between research dreams and business realities - simply put, the 'source of truth' in all technology matters."

As CTO and adviser to Haidamus, Jouret will lead Nokia's world-class research function and capabilities in line with Nokia Technologies' overall transition and expansion of the business. He will also manage a technology platforms team that will bring discipline to how innovations are transferred into business units.

"I'm excited to join Nokia Technologies as chief technology officer. Nokia is unique in the way it combines high technology with innovative design. It's also one of the rare technology brands that sparks instant recognition from consumers, enterprise, all the way to the service provider market," said Jouret. "We are living in a time of incredible disruptions, with new technologies and machine intelligence changing entire industries, like healthcare, energy, finance, and transportation, just to name a few. Companies that master advanced technologies and expand their human possibilities to meaningfully improve people's lives will win."

Jouret previously served as president of renewable energy solutions provider Envision Energy's global digital innovation lab, where he was responsible for the development of the company's software products, platform for the emerging "Energy Internet," and overall digital technology strategy. Prior to that he held a number of technology leadership roles with full business responsibility during his 20 years at Cisco Systems, Inc., where he was most recently head of the company's Internet of Things Group. He was also responsible for incubating new businesses based on emerging technologies and driving scalable customer solutions based on the company's innovations.

Jouret holds a PhD, D.I.C. in computing from the Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, United Kingdom, and a BS in electrical engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, United States.

Over more than two decades, and through the investment of more than €20 billion, Nokia R&D led the development of the core technologies enabling virtually all mobile devices used today. The company's R&D leadership continues after the sale of Nokia's Devices & Services business to Microsoft in 2014. Recent achievements include the leading technologies for video and audio encoding, including H.265 and HD voice; low-power connectivity technologies such as Bluetooth LE (low energy); and imaging technologies which are now powering augmented reality apps such as HERE Live Sight.
