SAMSUNG and ENERGY STAR Light Up Times Square to Encourage Consumers to Change the World During National Energy Awareness MonthA vibrant animation encourages people to help change the world by conserving energy

RIDGEFIELD PARK, NJ – October 10, 2012 – Samsung and ENERGY STAR have taken to the sky, the ocean, and the arctic for a 56-second spot in Times Square encouraging people to become more energy conscious during October, National Energy Awareness Month.

The animated spot follows a majestic bird as it swoops across a verdant landscape, a school of fish as it swerves around vibrant coral reefs, and a dog sled as it skims across pristine arctic slopes while reminding viewers to take the ENERGY STAR Pledge at energystar.gov/changetheworld

The ENERGY STAR Pledge asks people to do simple things that make a big difference in energy conservations such as choosing to purchase energy efficient products and making sure their homes are well insulated.

With ENERGY STAR’s help, Americans prevented about 210 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions in 2011 – the annual equivalent of emissions from 41 million vehicles – and saved about $23 billion on their utility bills.*

Created by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Department of Energy (DOE) in 1992, the ENERGY STAR program identifies and promotes energy-efficient products to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The ENERGY STAR symbol represents reliable, cost-effective, efficient products, services, and practices that reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The spot, which runs October 8, 2012 through March 31, 2013, will be seen by an estimated 44 million people, according to the Times Square Alliance who estimates 500,000 (250,000 employees and residents plus 250,000 additional tourists and passersby) people go through Times Square every day. The animation also features examples of energy-efficient, ENERGY STAR-qualified Samsung products such as the ES8000 Smart LED TV, the WF457 Smart Control Front Load Washer, and the RF4289 Wi-Fi enabled French Door Refrigerator.

ENERGY STAR-certified products provide top performance and innovative features which include more than 1,000 models of Samsung TVs, monitors, notebook PCs and printers/multifunction devices.* Samsung was honored for “Excellence in Product Labeling” in 2009 for consistent, high-profile placement of the ENERGY STAR logo on select products and ENERGY STAR Promotion in 2010. Samsung was named ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year, two years in a row in 2011 and 2012.
